Spring Queens

There's nothing like a coupla chicks sporting huge flowers in their hair to put the manic into a lovely Monday morning.

I'm wearing a Biba silk top from Sister Wolf when she was raising money for her roof fund, leopard-print leggings from Black Milk, VW Wings and the usual mish-mash I usually grab on my way out the door.

While out shopping, The Stylist and I were stopped by nearly every second person asking us where we got our headbands.
The lovely Hungarian upholstery shop lady called us "spring queens".
I was very proud to tell everyone who asked, The Stylist made her daisy band all on her tod.
Clever girl:)).

We had a lovely few hours on our own and we both wore our VW Melissa's.

I couldn't stop photographing her - she looked such a treasure.

I gave myself a layered haircut and dye-job last night - lots of razor cutting.  Well, I'm happy with it even though I'm sure no hairdresser would approve;).

Have a spiffing start to the week chaps and chapettes!

She Is Mine!

Remember that line in Wayne's World when Wayne first spots hot rocker Cassandra playing at her gig?
Don't lie ... I know you've seen it.
"She will be mine ... oh yes, she will be mine".
Well, I had the same response when I spied this awesome yellow nylon jumpsuit in Sarah Misfit's fabulous sale.

Say hello to Peaches.

Super-comfy with awesome buttons and massive wide legs, I couldn't resist popping this baby on straight away and spending the whole day wearing it - what a treasure.

I'm double-bagging it today, with my granny bag and a 1960s leopard handbag from Dandelion Vintage.

Old green velvet Nine West wedges with red and gold toes.

I made the headband.  It's quite a big one and they seem to be getting bigger!  I'm hooked on these little darlings, of which The Stylist and I are accumulating quite a DIY collection.  She and I had a bit of a manicure session today, being the first day of school holidays.  Pink on one hand ...

... green Barry M nail paint from the scrumptious Vix, on the other.

How's your weekend looking?  Hope it's as bright and sunny as Peaches.

Treading Carefully

I couldn't keep up with The Stylist on our walk to school this morning.
Tights and flatforms are a rather tricky combo and require much concentration.
The following distractions didn't help:
  • Very smiley old man proudly doing a big double wheelie in front of me ... on his mobile scooter!
  • Little girl to mother: "Mummy are those funny shoes?"
  • Too many people slopping their coffees, tripping over, walking into poles and shop windows for me to keep my mind on the job at hand.

I think I actually managed to distract myself in this wee outfit.
Now that's something that doesn't happen often at all.

I just want to say thank you for the wildly positive response to yesterday's Domestic Sluttery post.
It seems there is much need for an open forum on slatternly personal habits.
If you have any pics you want to share of you wearing an outfit in your shameful habitat, I would be most keen to share them here.
Release the beast in you!

As you can see, I'm perching on Number One Son's lovely amp and huge feck-off speaker that are stored outside under the house.
I'm surprised they haven't gone walkies or died a sad, wet death.  No, they're high, dry, dusty and disgracefully stored.

I'm wearing a thrifted 1960s, wool tartan frock, vintage cardi from eBay, blue tights from Sock Dreams and VW Melissa Wings on sale from Amazon.
My granny bag, belt, sunnies, jewellery and watch are all thrifted.
I made the rose headband myself and the sweet wee lassie who serves me coffee each morning asked if I could make one for her in white and she'd pay for it!
Can you believe that?  I can't!
She said her friends have headbands from chain stores but they're "boring" and she wants to stand out at a music festival she's going to soon.
I think white flowers will look lovely against her long black hair.

I love giant-sized watches because then I can't ignore the time.
I'm wearing pink and orange nail polish and MAC's Ruby Woo lippy.

Mouldy outdoor chairs, under-used mop, peg basket and strange poo-type mark on the wall get showcased today.
Happy Monday!!

Domestic Sluttery

One of my favourite "gooey, chocolate-type" moments of the day is when I get to sit down with a pot of tea and trawl my favourite blogs.
Not only do I love perving at all the wonderful eccentrics I adore, but it's a double-bonus when I get to be a peeping-tom in the homes of the mad and fabulous.
There's something super-squeezy and spectacular about an outrageous, eye-popping outfit showcased in a home or garden that I would gladly swap with my firstborn (who's 22 and would laugh in the face of such insanity).
The reason?
My name is Desiree and I am a domestic slut.

My household is in a permanent state of domestic anarchy.
I hoard vintage clothing and have nowhere to put it all and even though I have cut right down on my vintage household trinkets, which are packed in boxes or have been given away, the clothing collection grows like mould.

The Stylist likes to swish that green thing around that I'm clutching, but I'm not sure what it's for.
There is next to no storage in our rented 3-bedroom home and I live with The Phoenix who holds the 1973 Olympic world record in hoarding.
The Stylist is a wild artist and crafter and her wonderful, huge constructions litter the house but I haven't the heart to dismantle them or throw them away, even after six months.
Between Number Two and Number Three sons, the former is a perfectly normal teen slob who strangely at 14, suddenly needs to be reminded to change his undies everyday.
The latter can never find anything because he has his nose permanently jammed in a book and forgets that you can't pee straight in the bowl while reading.
So I've decided to out myself.

My Melissa sample sale haul took pride of place on the tacky kitchen lino, but sadly only for a couple of hours.
The reason most of my outfit shots are taken in the same location is because it's the only spot where the light is good and the ground is even for my tripod.
The other reason is that inside the house, we have a cardboard guinea pig playpen, cardboard box hotel and apartment buildings, mountains of unfolded (clean) washing, unmade beds, six computers undergoing life-saving surgery and dust regions you could name as principalities.
You get the idea - it's wall-to-wall shite.
Sometimes it drives me insane, but with my unexplained chronic fatigue, I chose to do the hygenic stuff and leave the rest to fate.

The Stylist is responsible for this tiny corner of neatness.
So, if the light's right inside or it's pissing down outside, from now on I'm going to give you a peek at my wonderfully disgraceful outfits in my utterly disgraceful house.
After all, it's all part of growing old disgracefully and the plain truth that I will never pull my socks up and start behaving myself.
Welcome to Domestic Sluttery.

Fecktacious Helga!

Unexpected gifts from goddesses are pure, delicious nectar.
And the heavens shone their full glory on me this week when the Grand Goddess Helga von Trollop sent me a parcel of goodies that set my tail feather on fire!
I may or may not sleep very close to some of the items.

Included in the parcel, the items of which I will dissect into several posts, was this amazing 1960s peach evening frock that I have worn three out of four days this week.
It has a very narrow hem which necessitates a serious wiggle walk.

There seems to have been quite a bit of cat-calling from the audience for a wiggle-walk video.
I'll have to organise my production team and get my wiggle on for you;).

Helga made this amazing brooch from leopard faux fur, lace and a lovely old piece of sparkly jewellery.
It's utterly exquisite and I'm utterly gob-smacked that she made something especially for moi.  I love it!!
She knows I'm a total sucker for animal-print!

The usual suspects accessory-wise, except for another pair of Indian jingly earrings I thrifted last week for $2, my 1930s leather embossed clutch and brand-new grosgrain and embroidered shoes that were marked $270 ... I thrifted them for $20.
When I was trying them on, a bloke sidled up to me and said "you should buy them, they make your legs look fantastic" ...  ooooh errrr ... cheeky bugger!

 Gratuitous boob-grab, coz they're there.

The vintage blue sequinned cocktail hat turned up this week from Etsy, a bargain at $13.  Happy!

Close-up of the scrumptious, soft, bubbly fabric and waist trim.  The dress came with a shawl but I wanted to show off Helga's brooch and the boob-tastic dress to you today.

How are you travelling this week sweeties?
There seems to be much excitement around the world at the change of seasons ... spring and autumn are both such spectacular times of the year.

Cheeky Bits

Are there any "real" op shops left?
I've rediscovered a local gem in recent weeks.
A place where generous citizens donate their pre-loved goods and they're not tagged at despicable prices.
I found this 1970s shortie jumpsuit for a thrilling $3, the same day and place I bought my two dollar lounge-room-curtain-skirt.
Those jolly good hunting days are rare.
Are op/thrift shops becoming greedy or am I just being a Scrooge?

The neighbour's pussy seems to be spending more time with us and I think its owner is getting a tad annoyed following a spate of cuddly sleepovers. Oops.

Now that's one naughty little zipper option up the front huh?
Hmmm ... how much will I show off today?
I only wish I had a wonderful chola gingham bra like the gorgeous La Dama wears ... drool.

I got the bag for $3 at an op shop, it's made from 1970s curtain fabric - gotta love that old orange and brown combo eh?
I decided on purple tights from Sock Dreams and my blue VW Melissa's that the ever-scrumptious Suzanne of Idee Fixe picked up in the NYC sample sale.

The 1960s green earrings were 50 cents from the same oppy.
The collar and wee arm pocket are an orangey-red colour - lurve big pointy collars!

I can tell by the hemline that the jumpsuit has been kept at its original length.
Jolly cheeky innit?

As the weather warms up I'll be wearing this jumpsuit to death.
It's the perfect thing to wear while picking fluff off the carpet on The Phoenix's side of the bed;).

Hot Pink Frocker

I don't know how you all do it.
It takes a dedicated blogger to get their kit on and snap off glorious shots for us to ooh and ahh over.
Overwhelming fatigue has taken over my brain this week, yet I always look forward to Frock On A Friday.

This little 1950s number has led a hard-working life in her day-job and whenever I slip it on, I get goosebumps.
It's silk chiffon with a lovely ruche waistband and it's EXTRA tight around the knees - so goes the wiggle-walk;).

Ooh it's a tad breezy so I popped on my 1940s fur cape.
If any fur-lovers have any ideas about what type of fur this is, I'd be most grateful as I'm stumped.
It's extremely soft, has no sheen and the fur is very thick and fine.

I'm wearing layered thrifted tights, Saba leather bag I won in a competition, while all the jewellery is thrifted, including my latest purchase, the lovely jingly Indian earrings I scored for $2 this week.

I have been able to manage some creative entertainment this week.
The Stylist and I have been on an obsessively, manic, floral headband-making malarky.
There really is something about the power of a hot glue gun - you just want to go around glueing things like a mad thing!
This purple one with green leaves was my first and so far favourite attempt at a floral headband.
The first time I wore it a girl came up to me and wanted to know where she could buy one.  Chuffed!

I felt this outfit needed a bit of a wild card thrown in, thus the VW Melissa 3-Straps.

Close ups for all you detail floozies.

I hope you're all ending the week on a high, I'm so relieved it's finally Friday and I wish Franca of Oranges and Apples all the very best on her wedding celebrations this weekend.
