Oh how I wanted everything Madonna wore in Desperately Seeking Susan - that jacket! Those boots!
Interesting to see her recreate her past and flog it off to modern teens with her new Material Girl collection.  I smell a nice big earner for her and Macy's, but I can concede that it is a clever idea: 1980s icon and controversial feminist who led the way to today's Lady GaGa look.

  1. Susan = STYLE ICON!
LOVE this movie & have probably watched it a thousand times throughout the years.
I was REALLY into Madonna in the 80s but I can't help thinking that once she shed her lion's mane & went platinum blonde, she became a lot more corporate courtesan & a lot less queen of street-cred.
I shall never stop loving the 'Susan' look & attitude though as it rocks my world!

  2. Well knock me over with a feather... just wandering around your blog as I just found it, and there I am! I'm in this movie and know practically every extra and minor character as well. My friend and I are in the nightclub scene. You can catch a glimpse of me around 1:17, I'm sitting directly next to Roberta's husband, to his left if looking at the bar. I'm not a Madonna fan (in the least), and it kind of makes me queasy to hear this song after that 10 hour day of shooting and hearing it over and over, so I couldn't say if I spotted us again, though in the film you do see us quite clearly from different angles because of where they positioned us. I also actually helped to costume, as they would come in to the shop I worked at during the day and I'd have to style complete outfits, otherwise it would have been a very unauthentic looking film due to the bizarre sense of what they thought most East Villagers looked like. Now I'll have to hunt through my vintage stuff, I bet I still have the outfit I wore! Thanx for the blast from the past, nice to see such good old friends again!

  3. CJ - you said it baby!! I've just visited your blog and you're amazing, following you! xo
PGQ - I saw you!! Wow what an amazing experience that must have been! I can understand how you probably can't bear to hear that track ever again after all the work you did on and off the set. I hope you can dig up your old outfit and maybe give it an airing on your blog? I'm popping over to say hi:) Thanks so much for your kind words, xo

  4. So sorry for the delay in my response, its been crazed between my nearly 11 year olds social calendar and getting everything set for back to school. I will indeed try to dig up some clothes I wore back then, and do a post. Something you'll find cute was today we were at Saks Fifth Ave. and the salesgirl thought my daughter was wearing Lourdes' new line! Nope, she's one of a kind, just like mom and came through with a completely unique outfit. Sadly they didn't have the shoes I've been lusting after, but we made a new friend! And I did find the amazing leopard YSL shoes I wanted in my size at the YSL boutique which was an even more amazing experience! Keep up the great work, I truly love your blog! Its so nice to see someone who isn't a 20-something with amazing style!
