"I Painted My Own Reality" - Frida Kahlo

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do.
I would imagine her and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too.
Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it's true I'm here and I'm just as strange as you.”  - Frida Kahlo.

Yesterday I received a surprise parcel from the utterly sensu-ational Helga von Trollop, containing such glorious treasures, I am going to wear one of her very special gifts for Frock on a Friday.
You darling woman!!!!!!!
And I'm spoilt ... yes, spoilt I say!
Because today I received a completely out-of-the-blue parcel from Number One Son's gorgeous girlfriend, Miss Danni-Long-Legs.
Just look at them on our wedding day last year!

Sickeningly gorgeous or what?
Well, Miss Danni-Long-Legs not only has legs up to her eyeballs and a face to make grown men weep, she is an incredibly talented artist, sculptor, crafter, comedian and ... you name it.
She painted this portrait of Frida Kahlo for The Phoenix and I.
She also sent me the sparkly orange leggings, U.J. ring, some glass beads and a spectacular clutch.
I spent quite a few hours with Frida today and decided we had a lot in common and would have many passionate chats about hair-do's, colour combining and facial waxing.
Isn't Frida utterly gorgeous?
I see a long and beautiful friendship evolving between the two of us.

"The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration." - Frida Kahlo

We're having a secret, girly chat ... what's she saying?

"There have been two great accidents in my life. One was the trolley and the other was Diego. Diego was by far the worst." - F.K.

Then she whispered, "Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?"
So I put my embroidered bag on her lap and let her admire the shiny magic she too could enjoy if she had feet and legs ... oh, and Pips the guinea pig got a loving pat.
It was the best I could do.
Thank you so much for all your kind and beautiful comments to The Phoenix and I after my post on haemophilia - we were honestly so touched and a bit teary!
Baci,
Desiree xoxo

  3. All the quotes from Frida are just perfect, aren't they? "Yes, it's true, I'm here and I'm just as strange as you." Thank God for Frida and for YOU!
Love the outfit, of course, I adore how you throw it all on and it just looks effortlessly, gorgeously, perfectly wonderful! (And I'm secretly a little jealous of that too, but don't think badly of me...)
You deserve all the gorgeousness that comes your way from Miss D-L and Madam H.

  4. That first quote made me cry.

If I was rich I'd buy a squillion copies of Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress http://tinyurl.com/bw8mk6n and give them to all my favourite frockers. (The look-inside is good).

I was in two minds about it because it seemed a bit intrusive - but then I got it as a present and it is just FANTASTIC. And I am a Frida-addict so ***** (5 stars - not a swear-word lol)

    Also - THE LEGGINGS!!! Swooooon!!

Now - I need to have
"I'm here and I'm just as strange as you" tattooed on me as soon as poss :)) xx

  5. AS we grow up we often forget that we can continue to be different and fun. To make up our own little world like when we were children. Frida was such a fascinating woman. I often think back to when I was a kid and wish I had the courage to wear whatever I want and not give a flying Freddy what people think.

  8. Danni-long-legs is beautiful indeed. We're all a little odd sometimes, but the world would be far duller without the Frida Kahlos and Desirees of this world. Xx

  9. I think I've admired your Divinyls t-shirt before, but I'm still loving it! That picture of you in profile is absolutely stunning - you're just as gorgeous as Ms Long-legs. She sounds like the perfect incipient daughter in law though, and a really talented artist. Frida was such a fascinating character.

  20. Her writing is beautiful D. I think we're all bizarre and flawed, some people are just more willing and open to own it and love it. Splendidly powerful.

  23. Danni-Long-Legs is a stunner, and a damn fine artist as well--what a cool portrait of Frida. Of course you two would be best pals--you both march to the beat of your own drummers (orchestras?) and have killer style!
